Find your balance
At some point during decorations you might find yourself running into obstructions. Sometimes the room appeared precisely like in reference, sometimes it didn’t, sometimes pieces just suddenly refused to match. At the beginning you might say ‘minimal’ was the style you were going for but one day a Chinese Antique Furniture caught your eyes tremendously that you purchased it. Don’t be too worried. It could still work as there was no right or wrong. After all, every piece helped establish a story into the room and made it felt more like ‘you’. However, balance still played an essential role in elevating your decorations without having to give up your identity.
Yes, this so called balance might be something of a personal preference. But there were some little tricks towards achieving a pleasant living that could apply in every aesthetic style. Just follow these ‘symmetry’ principals and your items matching problem goes away. This might just be the trick that your interior designer didn’t tell you.
The 60-30-10 Rule
กฏ 60-30-10 หลักการสากลแห่งความสมดุล ที่ใช้กันในหลาย ๆ วงการอย่างการจัดสัดส่วนภาพเวลาถ่ายรูป การถ่ายภาพยนตร์ และอื่น ๆ ที่ก็สามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้กับการตกแต่งต่างๆได้อย่างดีทีเดียว
หลักๆแล้วกฏนี้จะนำมาใช้กับพาเลตต์สีของห้อง อย่างเบสิคเลยสมมติว่าในห้องคุณมีเฟอร์นิเจอร์จีนโบราณสีเขียว หากเกรงว่าสีจะโดดไป ให้คุณหาไอเท่มชิ้นอื่น ที่เป็นสีเขียวโทนใกล้ ๆ กันมาอีก 2-3 ชิ้น อาจจะเป็น ต้นไม้สักกระถาง หรือ ภาพจิตรกรรมโบราณ ฯลฯ มาตั้งไว้ให้อยู่ในพื้นที่เดียวกัน ก็จะทำให้ดูเบลนกับบรรยากาศมากขึ้น แถมช่วยขับสีเขียวของเฟอร์นิเจอร์จีนโบราณนั้นออกมาด้วย
หรือหากใครเริ่มแต่งห้องตั้งแต่ทาสีใหม่ ก็สามารถแบ่งสีตามอัตราส่วนการใช้สี 60-30-10 ได้เลย
โดยให้ 60% เป็นสีหลัก 30% สีรอง และ 10% สีไฮไลท์
ยกตัวอย่างเช่น แต่งห้องสไตล์มินิมอลด้วยสีขาวเป็นสัดส่วนที่มากสุด 60% รองลงมาอาจเป็นสีครีมหรือเบจ 30% เพื่อมาเบลนความขาว และตัดให้โดดด้วยสีน้ำตาลสัก 10% ของห้อง
ทริคคือพยายามเลือกสีรองที่เป็น neutral color ที่สามารถเบลนสีหลักและเข้ากันได้กับสีไฮไลท์ของห้องด้วย
การใช้อัตราส่วนนี้นอกจากจะทำให้ห้องมีความหลากหลายของสีที่เข้ากันแล้ว ทำให้ห้องไม่รู้สึกจืดหรือแข็งทื่อไปอีกด้วย ลองจินตนาการดูว่าถ้าหากห้องนั้นมีสีขาวสัก 80% จะให้ความรู้สึกยังไง หลักการนี้สามารถนำมาใช้กับพื้นผิวและวัสดุในห้องได้อีกด้วย
1. The 60-30-10 Rule : The rule of thirds, universal rule adopted in numerous industries e.g. composition arrangements in photography and films, etc. which was known to be exceptionally effective adapted into decorations.
Mainly this rule applied in the room’s color palette. For example, if you had a Chinese Antique Furniture but afraid if the green was too much and wouldn’t fit in its surroundings. Try finding other 2-3 items of a similar green shade to place in the common environment e.g. a plant or a brass green vase. This was to fuse the shade into the atmosphere. More green would also draw out the beauty of the existing green hue in the sofa.
If you’d rather start from the bottom like painting the room, try dividing color proportion into 60-30-10. The main color is 60%, complementary color for 30%, and a hilight color in 10%. If you were going minimal with white as the biggest proportion of 60%, might support it with cream or beige for 30% just to blend the white out. Then accentuate with 10% of brown.
The trick was picking the neutral shade as supporting color as it worked well with both main and highlight shade.
This given proportion, beside established the harmony of matching colors throughout the space, it also prevented the room from feeling bland and stiff due to one single flat color. Imagine how over 80% of white in 1 room would make you feel. This principle also applied with textures and materials too.
Symmetry / Asymmetry
อีกหนึ่งวิธีในการทำให้ห้องเรามีความสมดุลง่าย ๆ เลยด้วยการใช้หลักความสมมาตร เพื่อสร้างให้เกิดความพอดีขึ้นนั่นเอง ตามความสมมาตร 2 รูปแบบ
ความสมมาตร (Symmetry) - ความสมดุลด้วยองค์ประกอบภาพ ด้วยรูปทรง ขนาด สี การจัดวางหรืออื่น ๆ ที่เหมือนกัน เหมือนวางเป็นกระจกสะท้อนกันและกัน เช่น โคมไฟทองเหลืองที่ตั้งขนาบข้างเตียงไม้สักทั้ง 2 ข้าง ฯลฯ หากมีโคมไฟทองเหลืองด้านมุมซ้าย มุมขวาก็ต้องมีเช่นเดียวกัน
การตกแต่งแบบสมมาตรนี้ทำให้ดูมีความสมดุลเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกันง่าย แต่หากการจัดบ้านมีแต่ความสมดุลแบบสมมาตรมากไป จะทำให้ดูราบเรียบไม่น่าสนใจได้ วิธีแก้ขัดคือให้ผสมผสานความอสมมาตรเข้าไปในความสมมาตร
ความอสมมาตร (Asymmetry) - ความสมดุลด้วยความรู้สึก ที่สิ่งของและองค์ประกอบต่างๆที่มีรูปทรง สี หรือการจัดวางไม่สอดคล้องกัน ไม่สะท้อนกัน แต่เมื่อมองดูแล้วรู้สึกสมดุล เช่น รูปทรงของด้านซ้าย ช่วยเฉลี่ยหรือผ่อนหนักผ่อนเบากันกับด้านขวา มองรวมๆแล้วเข้ากันได้ดี เป็นต้น
การตกแต่งแบบอสมมาตรนี้ เหมาะกับการแต่งหลายสไตล์รวมกันเป็นอย่างมากไม่ว่าจะเป็น เฟอร์นิเจอร์สไตล์แอนทีค, เฟอร์นิเจอร์วินเทจ, เฟอร์นิเจอร์จีนโบราณ หรือ เฟอร์นิเจอร์ยุโรป เมื่อมีชิ้นของที่แตกต่างแต่สามารถมาวางรวมกันได้ ทำให้ได้ใช้ความครีเอทีฟ ในขณะเดียวกันหากห้องมีความอสมสาตรมากไปก็อาจะทำให้ดูไม่สอดคล้อง หรือยุ่งเหยิงได้ในบางคราว
การจัดห้องที่สมดุล จึงต้องมีทั้งสองสมมาตรนี้ผสมผสานกันด้วย จะยิ่งทำให้เกิดความน่าสนใจขึ้นด้วย
2. Symmetry / Asymmetry : Another way to create balance in your decorations was to follow these 2 principals about symmetry.
Symmetry - The balance within visual composition created by a mirror-like reflective repetition of identical shapes, size, colors, arrangements, etc. addressed on both sides of a landscape e.g. brass bedhead lamps on both side of the bed. If an item was located on the left, it appeared on the right as well.
This symmetry arrangement was an easy way to achieve a balanced, harmonious result. However, it tended to cause the space to look flat and uninteresting if overused. To cope with which was to add ‘asymmetry’ into the symmetry.
Asymmetry - The sense of balance even when elements didn't occupy identical forms or colors. Neither arranged in cohesive nor reflective ways but still conveyed a balanced visual result. For example, forms on the left might help sharing some weight off of the right, creating overall stability.
This asymmetry arrangement suited very well with decorations that combined multiple styles, allowing some room for creativity handling two distinguished items. On the other hand, overuse of asymmetry could cause the room to look inconsistent and chaotic.
Therefore, to achieve pleasant and interesting result, we highly recommend incorporating both symmetry and asymmetry into your decorations.
Radial Balance
คือ ความสมดุลแบบรัศมีวงกลม โดยให้ชิ้นงานตรงกลางเป็นจุดเด่น (focal point) เช่น โต๊ะกินข้าวที่มีเก้าอี้จีนโบราณรายล้อมเป็นวงกลม และมีแจกันทองเหลือง หรือ โคมไฟด้านบนเป็นจุดศูนย์กลาง ฯลฯ
ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่จะเห็นการตกแต่งแบบสมมาตรนี้ได้จากโรงแรม หรือศูนย์อาคารสำนักงานต่างๆ อาจจะไม่ค่อยเห็นบ่อยกันในที่อยู่อาศัยนัก การตกแต่งแบบ Radial Balance สามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ได้ดีเมื่อคุณต้องการจะโฟกัสความสนใจไปยังวัตถุหรือชิ้นงานที่อยู่ตรงจุดกลาง

3. Radial Balance : A radial arrangement that placed an item in the center to act as a focal point e.g. a teak dining table surrounded with Antique chairs, with a brass vase or a lamp on its center top, etc.
You could mostly see this kind of symmetry at hotels as Hotel furniture, or office buildings rather than residences. Such radial balance could be applied when trying to draw focus to the center subject.
