เจดีย์วัดเกาะแก้ว ภาพผนังด้านข้างทางทิศเหนือของวัดเกาะแก้วสุทธาราม อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเพชรบุรี โดยช่างมากฝีมือเมืองเพชร สมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย เขียนด้วยสีฝุ่นผสมกาว
การเขียนภาพเจดีย์วัดเกาะแก้วจะแบ่งเรื่องราวเป็นภาพเจดีย์สลับฉัตร ซึ่งเราไม่ค่อยเห็นการจัดวางองค์ประกอบของภาพในลักษณะเช่นนี้เท่าไหร่นัก เนื่องจากพระอุโบสถเป็นอาคารไม่มีช่องหน้าต่าง จึงทำให้สามารถเขียนภาพจิตรกรรมได้เต็มพื้นที่ผนังของพระอุโบสถ
เจดีย์วัดเกาะแก้ว เป็นภาพเจดีย์ทรงเครื่องเรียงรายโดยรอบ พื้นที่ว่างด้านในเขียนภาพ “สัตตมหาสถาน ” ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่สำคัญ 7 แห่ง ที่พระพุทธเจ้าเสด็จเสวยวิมุติสุขหลังจากได้ตรัสรู้แล้ว ได้แก่ ภาพประทับที่อนิมิสเจดีย์, ที่ประทับพุทธจงกรมเจดีย์, ที่ประทับในเรือนแก้ว, ที่ประทับใต้ต้นไม้ไทร, ภาพเทวดา 2 องค์ ที่ประทับ ณ สระมุจลินทร์ เเละภาพที่ประทับใต้ต้นราชาตนพฤกษ์ (ร่มไม้เกด) มีการจารึกอักษรบอกเวลาที่เขียนภาพจิตรกรรมชิ้นนี้ระบุปี พ.ศ. 2277 ซึ่งตรงกับสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศ
เรียกได้ว่าจิตรกรรมฝาผนังที่วัดเกาะแก้วสุทธาราม ถือเป็นจิตรกรรมชิ้นเอกที่ยังคงความสมบูรณ์ งดงามจากอดีตสู่ปัจจุบัน

เสน่ห์ของงานชิ้นนี้ ทางเราเน้นการตัดเส้นทั้งชิ้นงาน ลงรายละเอียดทั้งภาพ มีการโฉบสีบ้างเล็กน้อย คงความเก่าให้คล้ายสมัยอยุธยามากที่สุด ซึ่งความยากของงานชิ้นนี้อยู่ที่การโฉบสีของแต่ละช่องเจดีย์ เนื่องจากผ้าที่เราใช้เขียนงานนั้นเป็นผ้าที่รองพื้นด้วยสีดินสอพองทำให้ดูดซับน้ำได้ดีสีจึงแห้งเร็ว การลงสีแต่ละครั้งจึงต้องอาศัยความไวและความประณีตไปพร้อมๆกัน

‘Wat Koh Keaw Pagoda Mural’. Another fine art delicacy from the historical talented artist, the story of which AGAL handpicked for you.
‘Wat Koh Keaw Pagoda’, the mural painting on the north side wall of Wat Koh Keaw Sutharam, Mueang District, Petch Buri, painted with fresco technique by the talented artist of the Petch town back in the late Ayudhya era.
The mural composition and narrative was constructed by a stripe pattern between pagodas and tiered umbrellas. The composition of which was rarely seen but was possible here due to the church’s solid wall without any window, allowing the full frame painting space for the artist.
‘Wat Koh Keaw Pagoda Mural’ illustrating a row of decorated pagodas, inside of which were writen ‘Satta Maha Sathan’, the word referring to 7 Buddhism historic locations where the buddha had found bliss following his enlightenment. The images were of Lord Buddha visiting the mentioned places i.e. Anemis Pagoda, Buddha Chong Krom Pagoda, Ruan Keaw (Glass Chamber), resting under the Banyan Tree, an image of two angels visiting Mujalin pond, and an image of Lord Buddha under the Raja Tonna Phruek (‘the shade of Gade Tree’). The mural had a written caption marking the time it was painted, 2277 BE which was during the reign of his majesty Borommakot.
‘Wat Koh Keaw Pagoda Mural’ was recognized to be a masterpiece preserved in a remarkable condition along its lingering presence from the past to present days.
AGAL in appreciation of the mural value had recreated this piece of fine art in tribute to its charm. The image was thoroughly outlined and detailed, slightly added gradient to enhance weight in some areas while depicting the aging appearance of the original painting from Ayudhya era as good as possible.
The challenging part was the creation of gradient in each pagoda frame. As the textile we used as canvas was covered with marl color base which absorbed water particularly well, resulting in the paint to dry very quickly. Each steps of painting process, therefore, required from the artist both speed and delicacy.
